Guadalmina Canyoning near Marbella: How Hard Is It, Who Can Join and What to Bring?
Updated October 19, 2026 · 5 min read
For most people, book the Guadalmina canyoning adventure from Marbella: it has by far the most reviews of any canyoning trip here (4.9 from 1,858), and its operator says the route suits beginners as well as experienced adventurers. If you are fit and want a second option from a different operator, look at the Benahavís River Walk, but note its stricter limits below.
| Canyoning trip | Duration | Price | Rating | Limits on the booking page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guadalmina Canyoning Adventure from Marbella | 3 hours | €45 | 4.9 from 1,858 reviews | Not for under 6s, people over 65, pregnancy or heart problems (booking page) |
| Benahavís River Walk, guided canyoning | 3 hours | €45 | 4.9 from 847 reviews | Ages 8 to 60, good swimmer, good fitness, up to 120 kg (booking page) |

What you actually do
Both main operators run the same kind of trip: a short walk in, then about two and a half hours in the Canyon of the Angosturas, then a walk back to the car park. You swim through pools, slide down smooth rock and walk through narrow sections. Jumps are optional on both trips. The Guadalmina operator lists one rappel and jumps of 4 to 6 metres; the Benahavís operator says the 6-metre rappel is optional too, and that you can watch instead of jumping.
The gorge is in Benahavís, about 15 to 20 minutes from Marbella and 15 minutes from Puerto Banús according to the operators. The two trips start at different car parks, so check which one your voucher names: Parque Torre Leonera for the first, Parking Ermita on the A-7175 for the second.
Age, fitness and who should skip it
This is where the two trips differ most, and every figure here comes from the operator’s own booking page, not from us:
- On its booking page the Guadalmina operator accepts children from 6 years. It adds that in winter (December to March) it recommends participants be over 12, and its list of people who should not join includes anyone over 65.
- On its booking page the Benahavís operator sets 8 as the minimum and 60 as the maximum age, asks for good fitness, and lists non-swimmers, people with back problems, mobility impairments, low fitness and pre-existing medical conditions among those it does not suit.
- Both exclude pregnant women. Only the Guadalmina listing mentions heart problems, and only the Benahavís listing names a weight limit (120 kg).
If anyone in your group is borderline, ask the operator before booking rather than relying on a summary. These lists are the providers’ own risk classifications, and they can change.
Swimming is a real requirement on the Benahavís trip (“swim well independently”). The Guadalmina operator asks for basic swimming skills and says to tell them in advance if someone cannot swim so they can prepare a life jacket.
Equipment, footwear and what to bring
Both include wetsuit, helmet and harness or the equivalent gear. The Guadalmina operator specifies full-length 5 mm wetsuits and free photos; the Benahavís operator says suits are short or long depending on the season and also includes boots, a cold bottle of water and free photos and video. Its water temperature is given as about 22°C.
The Guadalmina operator rents proper canyoning boots for €8 and warns that aqua or water shoes are not allowed, because their soft soles can cause foot injuries. Bring sports shoes with a firm grip if you do not rent boots. Both lists ask for swimwear, and the Benahavís operator adds a towel and socks. Sunscreen and socks appear on the Guadalmina list.
Practical points
Language: the Guadalmina operator guides in English and Spanish, with French and German not guaranteed. The Benahavís operator lists English, Dutch, Hungarian and Spanish. Start times vary; the Guadalmina operator mentions 9 am, 10 am and 2 pm sessions and says the early one avoids summer crowds. Parking is free at the Benahavís meeting point; the Guadalmina operator mentions exclusive parking in July and August. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before applies to both.
Seasonal temperatures, fitness and medical questions are for your own doctor or the operator, not for this page.
