Caminito del Rey from Marbella: Guided Coach Tour or Go on Your Own?

Updated October 19, 2026 · 6 min read

If you will have a car or a taxi, book the Caminito del Rey entry ticket with guided tour. It costs €29, has the largest review base of any Caminito trip we list (4.6 from 10,873 reviews) and leaves you to organise only the journey. If you have no car and do not want to organise transport, the guided coach day trip from Marbella or Estepona is the only option departing from Marbella that handles everything (day trips from Fuengirola or Nerja do not start here), at €110.

What the coach tour covers

The coach picks you up at the booked time (the listing has four meeting points, depending on the option you choose), spends about two hours on the road to El Chorro, and an accredited guide takes you onto the Caminito for a visit the itinerary lists at 5 hours. Entrance and the mandatory helmet are included. Breakfast on the way and lunch afterwards are not. After the walk the coach goes to Álora or Ardales, depending on the day’s plan, for free time and a meal, then returns to the coast.

Be aware of what you are buying: most of the day is travel. If the walkway is the only thing you care about, €110 mostly pays for transport and a hosted day.

What the ticket-and-guide option covers

The €29 listing gives you a general admission ticket, a bilingual guide and a radio guide with headphones. It does not include transport. The booking page says to arrive at the Visitor Centre car park at least one hour before your start time, take the shuttle bus to the last stop (€2.50 per person, not included) and then walk 1.5 km to the control booth, where you meet the guide and collect a helmet. The listing counts 2 hours for the guided visit; budget more for the shuttle, check-in and walk.

For comparison, the official Caminito del Rey website lists general admission at €10 and its official guided visit at €18, with the shuttle at €2.50 and parking at €2. The ticket listed here costs more. If official tickets are available for your date, that is a legitimate way to pay less; popular dates can sell out, so check availability before you plan transport.

What to know before going, whichever you choose

  • Direction: the route is linear, so you cannot walk back to the start. It runs about 7.7 km in total, including access paths; the walkway itself is shorter.
  • Helmet: compulsory, supplied at no charge.
  • Age: the booking page for the entry ticket says children under 8 are not suitable, and the official website says children under 8 cannot enter; those aged 8 to 17 must come with an adult and carry ID. The coach tour is stricter: its booking page lists children under 10 as not suitable.
  • Heights and mobility: both listings name people afraid of heights and people with mobility impairments, and wheelchair users, as not suitable. The route is described as demanding moderate fitness, with steps and uneven ground.
  • Gear: the coach listing bans sandals, flip-flops and walking sticks. Visitor guidance for the route also rules out large rucksacks, umbrellas, selfie sticks and drones. Bring water.
  • Closures: the Caminito is normally closed on Mondays, and rain or strong wind can close it for a day, so a booking made far ahead may need to move.

Getting there on your own

Route planners put the drive from Marbella at roughly an hour and ten minutes, and the coach tour allows about two hours each way. If you are driving anyway, you can compare rental cars for Marbella and check the excess before booking. Either way, allow time to be at the Visitor Centre an hour early.

If a full day on the road does not appeal, the adventure tours page lists options closer to town, including Guadalmina canyoning.

Our pick: the entry ticket with guided tour if you can drive; the coach day trip if you cannot.
